BYZANTINE/KNIGHTS TEMPLAR CROSS BROOCH (#18)
Byzantine jewelry is a corner-stone period in the art history of jewelry, yet little is known about it in the modern world and it is comparatively undiscovered my art historians. The Greek jewelry shop collection of Byzantine crosses and Byzantium jewelry in general is extremely rare and one of the only surviving collections of its kind. The survival of this incredible collection of Byzantine jewels is due to the heritage of the founders - the Vaphiadis family who originated from Byzantium (Asia-Minor) and fled to Greece in the 1920's for safety from the Turkish ethnic cleansing of Greeks. The art of Byzantium was abundantly handed down to us and even though this type of jewelry is very particular and has an untrained audience, it is usually appreciated by avid jewelry lovers for its unique un-compromising detail and disciplined character.
To make this large section more easily navigated we have separated it into two main sub-sections. Don't forget to use the filters in the left column as a n aid to view items that might be of interest.

The ancient Greeks idolized intellect and spirit, while gods shared mortal passions and flaws to make themselves more accessible to humans. Beauty and harmony were truly at the heart of the ancient Greek civilization. This never fails to inspire our intellectual, scientific and spiritual worlds.
Each jewel uncovers an epic highlight from 5000 years of self-decoration and is curated with passion since 1928 by the Vaphiadis family, a virtuoso signature in the field for 5 generations. Our jewelry collection has been consistently preferred by various royalties, heads of state and international personalities and is also sold through a host of top world class museums such as the Louvre.
