Collectible Solid Sterling Silver Miniature Lekythos Vase
A lekythos (plural lekythoi, greek: λήκυθος) is a type of ancient Greek pottery used for storing oil, especially olive oil. It has a narrow body and one handle attached to the neck of the vessel. The lekythos was used for anointing dead bodies of unmarried men. Many lekythoi were found on tombs. Their depictions are often funerary rites and loss sceneries. Common colours for ancient ceramic lekythos are: dull red and black because of its use. These vessels were very popular circa the 5th century B.C., however there are many that have been found dating all the way back to 700 B.C.
Today lekythos is mostly used as a decorative vase and as a collectible piece. Here we present you a solid sterling silver miniature, inspired by the original ancient Greek vessel .An fine piece for your collection!
