The late Lefteris Vaphiadis who carved this horse taught his children how the horse got it's name in ancient Greece. The word 'ΑΛΟΓΟ' pronounced in english 'alogo' literally translated means 'speechless' or perhaps 'word-less'. The ancient Greek language is quite rich and there is almost always a meaning or concept behind every word and sound. (This is also one of the reasons why so many scholars enjoy studying this language). So as a child, being Greek-speeking myself, I understood the word 'speechless' but had no idea why this name was used to describe a horse. Asking him I remember his explanation that since that moment brought me much closer to this beautiful animal. He told me that the ancients greatly admired the horse for it's strength, it's inteligence, it's pride, it's devotion and it's compassion to other living beings. And so the name 'speechless' was given to the horse because it seemed encapsule all of the wonderful virtues of man except for one, the spoken word...!
