Item 36 Sterling Silver Ram torc ring

Gold Ram jewelry has been found in numerous burial site treasures throughout the Greek empire. Similar silver and bronze jewellery from between the 4th and the 2nd century B.C. also have been found, although these are more rarely in preserved condition owing to the faster oxidating properties of these metals.

Using a number of researched ancient Greek and Minoan hand-made processes (unseen by silver and goldsmiths in Western Europe or America), our workshop offers immaculate historical reproduction pieces that are enjoyed by enthusiasts today worldwide.
It renders the attributes of design and decoration of similar gold and silver artifacts from the period mentionned and is 100% hand made from sterling silver with many processes similar to jewelry of its time. This is what makes the design an overall authentic reproduction, completely true to prorotype museum artifacts.

The ring comes only in one size. As it is open ended it can be adjusted (with a bit of care) from US size 5.5 to a US size 7.5 (in european sizing this range translates to 51 mm - 55 mm)

The significance of the ram in antiquity
The ram was sacred in various entwined ancient civilisations, from as far back as the mesopotamian civilisation (approx 3000 BC),  to the Etruscan, Egyptian and Greek civilizations. Furthermore the peace-loving and quite mystical Minoans also revered it as an all important symbol of fertility.
Additionaly, the ram was seen as the incarnation of the Egyptian god Jupiter-Ammon. When Alexander the Great conquered Egypt he visited the shrine of Ammon (or Amun). Embracing the god, upon and after his visit, he dressed himself with the skin of a  ream and the horns as a head-dress. Thereafter the horns of the ram (known as the horn of ammon) were depicted much like a crown in Alexander's portraits and depictions on Alexander's coinage
